They study and attempt to minimize theeffects of acid rain, global warming, automobile emissions, andozone depletion.
They also are involved in the protection ofwildlife. Many environmental engineers work as consultants, helping theirclients to comply with regulations and to clean up hazardous sites. Environmental Education (EE) is a process in which individuals gainawareness of their environment and acquire knowledge, skills,values, experiences, and also the determination, which will enablethem to act - individually and collectively - to solve present andfuture environmental problems.
EE is a c omplex process, covering not just events, but a strongunderlying approach to society building as a whole. EE providespeople with the awareness needed to build partnerships, understandNGO activities, develop participatory approaches to urban planning,and ensure future markets for eco-business. Environmental education is a learning process that increasespeople's knowledge and awareness about the environment andassociated challenges, develops the necessary skills and expertiseto address the challenges, and fosters attitudes, motivations, andcommitments to make informed decisions and take responsible action(UNESCO, Tbilisi Declaration, 1978). Environmental education enhances critical thinking,problem-solving, and effective decision-making skills, and teachesindividuals to weigh various sides of an environmental issue tomake informed and responsible decisions. Environmental educationdoes not advocate a particular viewpoint or course of action.
The components of environmental education are:. Awareness and sensitivity to the environment and environmentalchallenges. Knowledge and understanding of the environment andenvironmental challenges.
Attitudes of concern for the environment and motivation toimprove or maintain environmental quality. Skills to identify and help resolve environmentalchallenges. Participation in activities that lead to the resolution ofenvironmental challenges.
